The Curriculum
Autumn Term - X Marks the Spot
This term, our theme is ‘X Marks the Spot’. Inspired by the story of The Iron Man by Ted Hughes, we will be using clues from the book to help us discover possible locations of the Iron Man across Europe. Building on our learning from Year 3 about the United Kingdom, we will investigate different countries in Europe, comparing their similarities and differences.
In science, we will be learning about states of matter and electricity - perfect for helping us understand the world of The Iron Man. We will even be visiting Magna to explore electricity in an exciting, hands-on way.
Over the term, we will study three artists whose work will inspire our own creative projects. Using European landmarks as our focus, we will sketch famous buildings and design purposeful structures, just as The Iron Man himself was built with a purpose.
In music, we will be learning about ABBA, one of Europe’s most famous bands, and performing some of their most well-known songs.
It promises to be an exciting term full of discovery, creativity, and adventure!
Year 4 trip to Magna
Year 4 had a fantastic time at Magna, exploring the four elements through hands-on activities like wave machines, water guns, and a dramatic fire tornado. They especially enjoyed the Big Circuits Workshop, where they powered a giant circuit to dry washing — a fun and practical way to learn about electricity!
