Computing

Intent
Computing is an essential part of a child’s curriculum, we aim to provide a high-quality computing education that equips pupils to use computational thinking and creativity to understand the ever changing digital dependant world. At Sherwood Junior School we aim:
- to provide children with digital skills necessary for everyday life;
- to educate children on the importance of online safety;
- to ensure that everyone in the school community has a clear outline of expectations for the subject;
- to leave Sherwood with basic computer skills.
The aims of computing are to teach children to:
- be able to stay safe online;
- know what to do if they feel threatened or in an unsafe situation online;
- be able to use a variety of software, including multimedia skills;
- be able to publish work digitally;
- be able to sort, organise and interpret data;
- understand the role technology plays in our lives;
- know how to programme and debug using a coding software.

Theme Days and Events
Safer Internet Day
Safer Internet Day takes place in February each year and we celebrate this at Sherwood. The day aims to raise awareness around keeping safe online in addition to the Digital Literacy our children receive through our Computing curriculum.
In today’s society both children and young people are exposed to a wide array of technologies, both within schools and in their lives outside school. Technology enables us to make connections around the world, surf the internet and access a wide range of digital information, which open up new opportunities for everyone.
E-Safety is something that everyone should be aware of and be making considerations when using any type of technology. Children are exposed to all manner of things whilst online and just like in the real world, we need to be aware of and consider carefully, our interactions in the digital world.
