Reading at Home for Parents and Children

We LOVE reading at Sherwood Junior School! So please explore the ideas and resources below to really help you grow your love of reading!

Reading ideas for at home -

*Why not try starting a Family Book Club at home? The idea is really simple: The whole family sits down to enjoy a book together. You may have multiple copies of the same book, or else just pass around the copy you have and take turns to read it aloud. Once you have read a chapter, stop and talk about what you liked about it. And don’t forget the most important part of the Book Club- hot chocolate and biscuits! Support for parents on reading with their child can be found here

*You could carry out a Family Reading Treasure Hunt! Ideas can be found on the Open University website here

* Why not try our Reading Bingo sheet! You could complete it independently or as a family. Challenge yourself to read as many as possible over the course of this year.

*Adults love reading too! There’s no better way to promote a love of reading in children than them seeing adults enjoying a good book! Adults of Sherwood Junior School (parents and staff) are welcome to use our book swap trolley in the school reception: bring a book, leave a book or both.

*More wonderful ideas for making reading fun at home with your children can be found here.
