Year 4 Autumn Term Curriculum - Beyond Ourselves

This term, our theme is "Beyond Ourselves"! We will be learning about Europe, building on our learning from year 3 about the United Kingdom. We will be looking at the different countries and describing their similarities and differences. In science, we will be learning about states of matter and electricity. We will be going to Magna to investigate electricity further in a fun environment! Over the term, we will be focusing on an artist called Stephen Wiltshire in art and DT. Using his inspiration, we will be creating our own sketches of a famous building within Europe and making our own structures for a purpose. In music, we will be learning all about ABBA and performing some of their most famous songs through singing and musical instruments.

Year 4 Spring Term Curriculum - All Things Great and Small

This term, our theme is “All Things Great and Small”! We will be learning about rivers and mountains, linking to our previous knowledge about the topographical features within the U.K. We will be building on this by exploring why rivers and mountains are key aspects of physical geography and even creating some fieldwork around the features of the River Medan. In science, we will be learning about animals including humans and living things and their habitats. So keep an eye out for those creepy crawlies! Throughout the term, we will be studying pilgrimages within R.E and even taking a trip to the Southwell Minster to immerse ourselves in our work. In Art, we are focusing on refining our textiles skills and will be creating a combined blanket at the end of the term for our classroom.

Year 4 Summer Term - Should I stay or should I go?

Should I stay or should I go? This is the question that year 4 are exploring this term and we are delving into the lives of Romans, Vikings and Anglo-Saxons. We will be learning about their geographical settlements and some of the brutal invasions that have taken place. How have they impacted Britain? What did they bring with them? There are lots of important enquiries that we will be conducting and our trip on the 30th of June to the Mansfield Museum will help answer these through an invaders day. In art, we will be learning how to work with clay and will be creating some medieval jewellery. Throughout science we will be learning how sounds travel through armies to link all of our learning together! It’s an exciting term filled with body percussion, exploring expression through music in RE and creating a bread bake off in D.T.
